Why Does Maine Need Saving?
In 2005, according to a Federal Reserve study, Maine was the only state besides Louisiana (after their economy was drowned by hurricane Katrina!) to see a decline in economic activity. To reverse this continuing spiral, Maine must reinvent its demand posture. Historically, Maine has been a producer of wealth drawn from its natural resources and the work ethic of its people. Alternatives to these traditional sources with lower cost structures have marginalized Maine. The challenges are great and the competition is fierce. It will require innovation and creativity to make compelling arguments why Maine should be allowed to keep its motto of “I Lead” and the more familiar slogan, “Maine, the way life should be.”
